We are a Non-Departmental Public Body. This means that we receive some funding from the Government, (in our case the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform) but we are completely independent of government, they cannot tell us what to do or not to do.
Although we are a non-statutory organisation we receive some funding in the form of grant in aid under Section 274 of the Enterprise Act 2002 (c.40) "Provision of financial assistance for consumer purposes" and this accounts for about 60% of our income.
The other 40% is contractual income secured on the back of our excellent reputation for being an efficient, well run organisation that achieves real results for consumers and its innovative thinking and contribution to the debates that really matter.
